Sri Lankan born Pathologist and Virologist Professor Joseph Sriyal Malik Peiris was awarded ‘Life Science Prize’ category of 2021 Future Science Prize. The Future Science Prize is funded by well known and accomplished team of scientists and financially supported by few business entities , donations and contributions from society as well. This award was first announced in 2016 to encourage and recognize groundbreaking science discoveries and research mainly focusing on China region (China mainland , Hongkong , Taiwan , Macau). This award is also recognized as ‘China’s Nobel Prize’ in some contexts.

Life Science Prize 2021


Life Science Prize 2021 was for research discovery in 2005, horseshoe bat was the origin animal carrier of 'SARS-CoV-1' virus and SARS-CoV-2 were transmitted to another mammal or mammals before transmitting to humans. They found that 'SARS-CoV-2' replicate well in bat and human bodies. This research helped to identify COVID19 and quickly produce a vaccine.
